Setting Children up for Success
The Western Quebec Literacy Council works with community partners, schools and trained volunteer tutors to help children develop a love for reading.

In partnership with les Alliances pour la solidarité and the ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale and the Table d’Éducation de l’Outaouais WQ Literacy Council seeks to increase the literacy level of struggling English-speaking readers in grades 1 and 2 through its Reading Buddies program.
WQLC is working in collaboration with the Western Quebec School Board schools to identify reluctant and struggling readers and pair them with a trained volunteer Reading Buddy. The program will also aim to promote family literacy by offering support to the parents of struggling readers by hosting homework help workshops, providing resources and information and by donating books to all participants to help build their family libraries. is working in collaboration with the Western Quebec School Board schools to identify reluctant and struggling readers and pair them with a trained volunteer Reading Buddy. The WQLC is rolling out a Reading Buddies summer reading program in July 2021 and is currently seeking readers in grade 1 and 2 who could use some help. We are also seeking volunteers who have 2 to 3 hours a week to donate towards this wonderful initiative.
